Instant Pest Solutions Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, in line with the UK Government’s legally binding target under the Climate Change Act 2008 (as amended in 2019). As a professional pest management company working across social housing, food and drink, retail, commercial and facilities management sectors in the North West, we recognise that our clients — particularly housing associations, local authorities and registered providers — carry their own decarbonisation obligations, and that every contractor they appoint either helps or hinders those commitments. This plan sets out our baseline, our targets, and the practical steps we are taking to reach Net Zero.
About This Plan
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been prepared voluntarily in line with the structure of the UK Government’s Procurement Policy Note 006 (formerly PPN 06/21) and the associated Carbon Reduction Plan standard, applied proportionately to the size of our business. It follows the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol categories for Scope 1, Scope 2 and selected Scope 3 emissions. It is owned by the company Director, published openly on our website, and reviewed annually.
Our Baseline Carbon Footprint
We have adopted 2026 as our baseline year for carbon reporting — the first year for which we are compiling complete fuel, mileage and energy records. Our operational footprint is dominated by vehicle fuel (Scope 1), as is typical for a field-based service business, with a smaller contribution from electricity at our premises at 8 Stable Court, Tarbock Green (Scope 2) and from waste and business purchases (Scope 3). Our estimated baseline footprint is approximately 17 tonnes CO₂e per year.

Carbon Reduction Initiatives — Current & Planned
Fleet & travel
Vehicle fuel is our single largest emission source, so it is our first priority. We use smart route planning and job scheduling to group visits geographically, reducing mileage and unnecessary journeys between sites — on multi-property contracts such as housing schemes, routine inspections are scheduled in blocks so one journey covers many properties. Our current fleet of four diesel vehicles will transition to lower-emission and electric alternatives as each vehicle comes up for renewal, in line with the roadmap above and the charging infrastructure available across our service area.
Energy at our premises
We are reviewing our electricity supply at 8 Stable Court with a view to moving to a certified renewable tariff at the next contract renewal, alongside practical measures — LED lighting, heating controls and switching off equipment out of hours. As our unit is landlord-billed, we will also raise renewable sourcing with our landlord as part of our 2030 milestone.
Treatments, chemicals & materials
We operate an integrated pest management (IPM) approach: proofing, housekeeping and monitoring first, targeted treatment second. This reduces the volume of chemical product used and its environmental footprint. All rodenticide use follows the CRRU UK Code of Best Practice, protecting non-target wildlife. We prioritise targeted, lower-toxicity formulations and non-chemical control methods where they will achieve the required result.
Waste & packaging
Used bait, sharps and contaminated materials are disposed of through licensed waste routes. We are reducing single-use packaging, reusing bait stations and monitoring equipment wherever safe and compliant, and reviewing our general waste stream for further recycling opportunities with our waste contractor, HSW Waste Ltd — based on the same business park as our premises, which keeps collection mileage to a minimum.
Suppliers & digital working
We prioritise manufacturers and suppliers with credible environmental standards, and we operate digitally — electronic reporting, invoicing and job management — which removes paper from day-to-day operations and supports the transparent reporting our clients need for their own supply-chain carbon accounting.
Working in Social Housing
Much of our work takes place in and around occupied homes, and we believe a responsible contractor’s environmental duty extends to the residents whose homes we work in. In social housing settings this means: minimising chemical use in occupied properties and always following product stewardship and CRRU guidance; choosing proofing and prevention over repeat treatment, which reduces both emissions and disruption to residents; scheduling estate visits efficiently so fewer vehicle movements take place on residential streets; and clear, respectful communication with residents before, during and after treatment. We also support the communities we work in by employing locally and training our technicians to BPCA-recognised standards, so the environmental and social value we offer sits alongside, not instead of, effective pest control.
Industry Alignment & Accreditation
Our approach is guided by the British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and pest management industry sustainability guidance. We are working towards a formal Net Zero pledge through a recognised framework such as Planet Mark’s Race to Zero route for SMEs — the same path taken by other independent pest control businesses that have achieved certified sustainability accreditation. Progress towards formal accreditation will be reported in the annual update of this plan.
Governance, Reporting & Review
This plan is owned by the Director of Instant Pest Solutions Ltd and reviewed annually. Each review restates our emissions against the 2026 baseline, reports progress against the roadmap milestones above, and is published on this page with a revised “last reviewed” date. Clients and prospective clients are welcome to request supporting information — including our environmental practices, waste transfer documentation and product stewardship records — as part of any procurement or supplier assessment process.
